Simona and the Sustainable Development Goals

Share:

In the summer of 2019, SIMONA joined the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The UN established these goals to create global change, addressing 17 initiatives to combat poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, while creating a more peaceful and just world.

SIMONA is proud to take part in these initiatives and have identified 4 main focuses; good health and well-being of our employees and local communities, utilizing affordable and clean energy, climate action in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and responsible consumption and production of goods.

Additionally 4 goals were identified that SIMONA directly contributes to through monthly donations. These initiatives are; zero hunger, quality education, gender equality, and clean water and sanitation. Through these initiatives SIMONA will also indirectly contribute to; sustainable cities and communities, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, life below water, and life on land.

Good Health and Well-Being

We have built, and strive to maintain, a workplace promoting safety, comfort, mental and physical health. Our hope is for employees to feel as comfortable at work as they do at home.

Employees have access to a library, an indoor pool, and ping pong tables, and an outdoor area outfitted with exercise equipment. We regularly organize barbecues, lunch, dinner, walks/hikes, monthly birthday celebrations, holiday celebrations, gift exchanges, and team volunteer work, etc. Such events and activities have brought our employees closer and helped build stronger connections.

As they get to know each other better and become good friends. Having a good friend relation inside the factory and office has shown that this improves the team communication and collaboration, and more importantly, it leads to a happier life overall.

Our employees have bonus incentives to recognize employees for their effort and achievements.

Also, we invest in courses, training, lectures, and resources to help them improve their jobs and personal grown.

We support our employee’s personal and professional growth by investing in furthering education through courses, training, lectures, etc. Additionally, Simona offers year-end bonuses to employees to incentivize productivity and acknowledge contributions.

Responsible Consumption and Production

Simona prioritizes reducing our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume resources. We emphasize the proper disposal of toxic waste and pollutants to meet government and industry standards. We have partnered with waste management companies to ensure our waste (wood, plastic, aluminum, glass, paper, etc.) is recycled properly and with the purpose of reusing.

We continually invest in new technologies that further sustainability by reducing water consumption, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions, such as our breakthrough Sahara program. We are striving to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, leather waste created from cutting and trimming by promoting the naturalness of leather and the use of “defect” areas of the hide. When cutting and trimming are unavoidable we are upcycling those scraps/trimmings into new consumer products.

Affordable and Clean Energy

Simona has engaged with the Chinese government to construct a windmill on our campus and solar panels on our factory roof. These installments will help power our operations and help provide clean energy to the local community.

Additionally, Simona employs steam capture and reuse technology, and biomass boilers in place of more traditional petrol-based boiler systems. All of these efforts are to reduce the reliance on coal and petrol generated energy and decarbonizing our operations

Climate Action

Simona believes that everything we are doing will directly contribute not only to Goal 13 but also to the other SDGs.

We are always ways that we can contribute to this SDG by decarbonizing our operations and supply chains through continuously improving energy efficiency, reducing the carbon footprint of our products, services, and processes, and setting ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with climate science, as well as scaling up investment in the development of innovative low-carbon products and services.

In addition, we try to build resilience in our operations, supply chains, and the communities in which we operate.

Direct Contribution ONG’S

We are so honored that you’ve chosen to join The Spring to help transform lives each month with clean water.

We want to ensure that you feel as connected as possible to your impact around the world. Since we can’t send the entire Spring community to visit all of the countries where we work, we made a video series to bring that impact to you. It’s called The Journey.
